Your First 20 Minutes

The first few minutes of any new hobby can feel uncertain. Here’s exactly what happens when you arrive, so nothing feels unfamiliar.

7:15 PM — Arrive & Settle In  There’s free parking right outside the Community Hub. We’ll meet you at the main reception door and show you where to put your things. You’ll have a quiet spot to sit and get comfortable — no rush, no pressure.

7:30 PM — A Moment to Observe You’ll see how the class group do their opening routine. This gives you a chance to take in the space from a safe distance before you join in.

7:31 PM — A Quick Welcome Darren, our head instructor, will come over to say hello to your group. It’s a simple, friendly check‑in to make sure you feel settled and know what’s happening next.

7:34 PM — Your Orientation We’ll walk you through how the dojo works: where to find water how to move safely on and off the mats what to expect during the session what you don’t need to worry about After this, you’ll feel grounded, prepared, and ready for a calm first night.

What You'll Learn in the Foundation Course

This course focuses on principles, not memorising techniques.

Each week builds on the last, giving you a clear understanding of how Aikijutsu works — and how to move with confidence from day one.

You’ll learn how to:

  • stay balanced and centred under pressure
  • move with clarity instead of tension
  • understand connection, timing, and distance
  • apply the principles that make techniques work (without needing strength)

Everything is taught in a structured, step‑by‑step way, so you always know why you’re learning something and how it fits into the bigger picture.

By the end of the 4 weeks, you’ll have a solid foundation — not just in movement, but in understanding the logic behind Aikijutsu.

What Your First Session Will Be Like

Your first session is designed to feel clear, structured, and welcoming. You’ll meet your instructor, get familiar with the space, and ease into the core principles we use throughout the course.

We start with simple movements that help you understand balance, connection, and how to stay relaxed under pressure — without needing strength, fitness, or experience.

Everything is shown slowly, with clear explanations and plenty of time to ask questions. There’s no intensity, no expectations, and no pressure to perform.

Just a calm, well‑designed introduction that sets you up for the rest of the 4‑week course.

What to bring:

You don’t need any special equipment or a specific level of fitness to get started. We’ve kept things as simple as possible so you can just show up and focus on the experience.

The Essentials

  • Comfortable gym gear: A simple T-shirt and trackpants are perfect.
  • Hydration: Bring a water bottle and a small towel.
  • An open mind: That’s the most important part—we’ll handle the rest.

What you don’t need

  • A martial arts uniform (Gi): We train in "civilian" gym wear for this course, so there’s no need to buy anything new.
  • Peak physical fitness: This is about mechanics and logic, not a cardio test. You won't be "out of breath" or struggling to keep up.
  • Previous experience: Everyone starts from zero. We expect you to be a complete beginner.

What Happens after the 4 weeks

Most people who complete the Foundations Course choose to continue — but there’s no pressure to commit to anything long‑term.

After the 4 weeks, you can:

  • move into the ongoing beginner classes
  • repeat the Foundations Course if you want more time
  • or simply finish the 4 weeks and leave it there

There are no contracts, no expectations, and no obligation to continue. You’ll know exactly what feels right for you once you’ve experienced the course.
